We're OK
To boil it down to transactional analysis terms, the "I'm OK, you're not OK" paradigm is pretty much the preferred opinion/position of many/most Americans these days, especially in the arenas of politics, religion, education, immigration reform, the role of government, sexuality, etc.
Since we can't both be "right", then one of us must be "wrong", ergo "not OK". "I'm pretty sure it's the other guy."
The simplistic notion that we can both be "OK" and disagree and respect each other doesn't seem to work. The win/win philosophy, expanding the pie, abundance mentality, the prisoner's dilemma, etc. still seem to be beyond our grasp.
Learning to manage and control certain of our human characteristics, such as greed, fear, aggression, and superstition has been and will continue to be our biggest challenge as a species. After all, we're not Vulcans.
