San Pedro

Not much opportunity to enjoy fiestas (parties) over the last two years. Finally, we were able to attend a birthday/graduation party yesterday in San Pedro, a small town at the west end of the lake, a few miles north of Jocotepec.

There are arguably three things that our state of Jalisco is most famous for. Tequila, which is actually a pueblo (town) about an hour northwest of Guadalajara, as the cuervo (crow) flies, as well as a tasty libation; Mariachis, small groups of singers and players who regale audiences with dozens of traditional Mexican folk songs (the audience usually joins in), and thirdly, birria, a meat stew traditionally made from chivo ( goat) or borrego (sheep). Most birria these days is made of beef (carne de res) or pork (cerdo).

Of course, there was plenty of beer, beans, rice, tortillas and Costco desserts.

A delightful afternoon with my wife, her relatives and the Mexico that I love best.
