Dustbin
One of the many down sides to "social media" is you can be outraged at a post about discrimination and racism and reply with a "angry face" emogi and then quickly scroll to a recipe for eggplant casserole and never skip a beat. As the father of three wonderful children of three different ethnicities, I am not encouraged by the continued violence against people because they are different. We each have to walk up to people and demand that they stop displaying and acting upon their bigotry and fear. The consequences for those who refuse to do so must be significant. Think what you will, but you will not deprive others of their constitutional right to life, liberty and happiness. You will not deprive others of their opportunity to live, work and play in a free and just society. Ain't gonna happen any more. You are not a victim of the "other", you are a victim of your own ignorance and narrow-mindedness. It can be overcome, there is a way forward. You must take responsibility for your own life and not look to blame others. You must want to live in a free society and protect the rights of all residents. You must come to believe that equality and justice for all will result in a better world for your children and future generations. You must learn that your differences will not be accepted until you acknowledge and accept the differences of others. You can accomplish these things over time, with patience and diligence and a willing heart, or you can go kicking and screaming into the dustbin of past ignominy. Choose wisely.
