ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA

It's one thing to care about justice and equality and work to bring about a better world, within your own capabilities. It's quite different to jump right into the middle of every case you see on TV and start posting a bunch of crap about which you don't know squat. This is the failure of so-called "social media".

Watching a video does not make you an expert. The videos are taken so that the facts can be more accurately established and a fair and just outcome can be determined, as in the Floyd case; so that we can root out officers who just shouldn't be there, before they commit a crime; and so that we can reassess how we want to police ourselves.

This, The Price is Right, audience participation system we seem to have adopted only divides people more and lends nothing to the legal process, much less to the "stated" goals of equal justice for all and unity of purpose in making our country a better place for everyone. The media should temper their desire for ratings by ceasing to try these events and trials on TV. I'm tired of seeing the same people tell me what I should think about a given situation. You're not supposed to have an opinion unless it agrees with the talking heads on whichever channel you happen to be watching. The conversation must go on, but the choosing up of sides must end.
